What becomes more fucked up the longer you think about it? : AskReddit
I remember reading a thing or two about how depressed people see the world more accurately than healthy people, but their accuracy caused them to make worse decisions than the happily deluded people did.

For example, healthy, happy people might ask out every crush they have - each time thinking the feelings are mutual. 4 out of 5 times they're wrong, but that one time leads to a very positive experience. The depressed person thinks their crush does not return their feelings, and so does not ask anyone out. 4 out of 5 times they are correct, and they wind up with no positive experiences.
I've mostly conquered depression, compared to when I was a kid, and I have to say my unfounded optimism has definitely led to me being a more successful organism than my accurate pessimism ever did. Hurray for evolution giving us the best route for our own survival, regardless of accuracy!
